Metal Angles: Uses and Benefits in Various Industries

Metal angles are often called angle iron or angle bar, which are lightweight yet strong L-shaped metal pieces. It is 90 degrees in shape, which makes it hard to bend or twist.

There are different types of metal angles, each with its own qualities. Their metal angles provide durability, and most are corrosion-resistant, making them suitable for use in major areas of life, such as construction, manufacturing, and DIY projects, while also providing support and branching.

Here, we will discuss different types of metal angles and the areas where they are used.

Furniture

Metal angles are L-shaped, which provides greater strength. It is widely used in home furniture to provide structure and stability.  Heavy furniture like workbenches, tables, and chairs

It is also used in building beds, serving as a central, weight-balancing side rail to support your mattress.

Construction and Infrastructure

Metal angles cannot bend and remain rigid, so they are used as the backbone in commercial industries, serving as frameworks and bridges.

It is placed diagonally when building a house or commercial site so that the building is supported even during earthquakes. Because it can tolerate great shock, it is widely used in bridges and telecom lattice towers. Metal angle is also used in factories or refineries to hold and carry heavy pipe in AC ducts.

Automotive and Transportation

In a vehicle, it’s important that it absorbs jerks and shocks during driving to ensure smooth travel, so the metal angle plays a huge role in this. To provide strength in the chassis and subframes of heavy vehicles such as buses or trailers, steel angles are used to support heavy cargo loads.

Metal angle is also used in a railway station. You can find it in railway tracks, signaling towers,  and the structural framework of the sheds of the railway station.

In ships and boats, galvanized metal is used to make compartments, decks, and ladders because it doesn’t corrode.

Types of Metal Angles

Equal and Unequal Angles: An equilateral triangle has equal angles and is widely used. Unequal angle has one leg larger (75mm x 50mm) and is used to carry structural loads.

Mild Steel Angle: Mild steel angle is used in construction, but it rusts easily.

Stainless Steel Angle: This metal angle is used in kitchen fittings and the food industry because it is stainless and keeps food safe.

Aluminum Angle: An aluminum angle is used in window frames. It is lightweight and avoids corrosion.

Galvanized Iron Angle: Galvanized angle has a zinc coating, which is best for outdoor work.

Hot-rolled angle: It has slightly rounded edges, maximum strength, and is used in heavy structural components such as bridges and machinery.

Slotted Angles: Reusable angle strips for making shelves, frames, benches, racks, and other structural supports.  They fold at a right angle and can be easily customized with nuts and bolts.

Cold-rolled angles: These angles are stronger than hot-rolled angles due to the cold-rolling process. It is used in staircases, interior and exterior, furniture, and other home appliances.
